Retail Concession | Shanghai
A concession area concept in a Shanghai department store, developed by Studio Tuesday, built around a restrained material palette of brushed stainless steel and warm timber.
At the centre of the plan, a full-height ovular mannequin stage with curved glass anchors the space and welcomes the consumer, leading them further into the open display behind. The layout is organised around a series of open-frame steel structures, their uprights and shelving forming a loose grid across the floor rather than enclosed walls, allowing sightlines to travel through the space.
Timber surfaces — used for display plinths and shelving — sit within this steel framework and on the main floor, warming what would otherwise read as an entirely industrial material language.
The result is a fit-out defined by clean lines and careful restraint, where structure and material are left largely exposed rather than concealed.
